Week of September 18th
Hello Parents!
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! As we approach my last week with your precious children, I wanted to let you all know what a pleasure it has been to teach your children these past 7 weeks! They have worked so hard for me and feel like they have grown so much in this short period of time. Mrs. Roach will return on Friday and we are meeting this week to make it a smooth transition for her and the students! Thank you all for your wonderful support and for being so helpful at home with all the paperwork, homework etc. to help the students to be successful in school!
Here are some weekly reminders and important information for the week:
Iowa testing continues on Monday and Tuesday. Testing schedule continues and no visitors in the building. We resume our normal schedule on Wednesday.
No official homework sheet, but I may send a math sheet or two home for multiplication practice. Keep reading nightly and doing Sumdog. Next week Mrs. Roach will start back with Spelling City and reading log.
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 20th, we will have a special “compliment” party. We earned enough compliments from others to spell out COMPLIMENT and the kids voted to have a PJ Party with a special treat. So on Wednesday the kids can wear PJ’s to school and I will be bringing them a special treat!
Field Trip permission slips went home on Friday for Diamond Dell, please return to school as soon as possible.
Our Mad Dash Pep Rally will be this Thursday, September 21st. Be on the lookout for the Mad Dash packet so you can help raise money for our PTA and Foundation!!
Fall Break is September 25-29. Enjoy your time off!!
What we are learning:
Reading: We continue to read stories and discuss the gist, the lesson and the important elements of a story. We are learning to answer questions by using our FAT strategy. FLIP the question, ANSWER the question and TELL about it. We also have been learning paragraph writing with using a topic sentence and supporting details.
In Writing we continue to work on our Narrative Stories.
In Math we began our unit on Multiplication. We are learning four strategies to help us understand the concept of multiplying: equal groups, repeated addition, arrays and skip counting on a number line. So far they are loving to learn how to multiply!!
In Social Studies we are finishing our unit on Native American Indians. We have studied tribes in the Northwest, Southwest and Arctic regions. To culminate our unit, instead of a test the students will be creating a brochure by using their research to tell and describe the natural and human resources used to obtain their food, clothing and shelter.
We will starting our Science unit on Rocks and Minerals this week. Part of their homework will be to bring in a rock to observe and study. I will send a sheet home about that!
Again, thank you for your continued support! These kiddos will have a special place in my heart and look forward to seeing them around school as I sub in other classrooms! I wish them the very best in the rest of their third grade year!
Sincerely,
Krissy Carlson
