Hello Parents!
I hope everyone enjoyed Eclipse day today! Whether you traveled north to see complete totality of the sun and moon, stayed and watched it locally or joined us at school to make Stomp Rockets for Stem Day, I hope your day was a BLAST!!!
Just want to apologize if anyone tried to do Spelling City early today and had no access to the correct list. Every Monday I have to assign them their sort based on their pretest they take in the morning! If you weren’t here today to take the pretest, no worries you all will just have group 2 words this week! PLEASE remember that even though spelling homework is not due until Mondays, our test still is on Fridays and the students need to have studied to be prepared. Spelling City is the preferred method of practice, but if you practice other ways that is fine too. Bottom line is they just need to be prepared to take their test on Fridays! Thank you for your help with this! Also if your child has not brought in headphones or earbuds, we really need a set per child for when we take our tests and use the computers and ipads for other websites that have sound.
We continue to work on Reading strategies to help us respond to text we are reading and in writing we have begun our narrative stories and will continue you to discuss Watermelon vs. Seed Stories to teach us how to write about a small moment in our lives! We had great lessons on nouns as well as subject and predicate…ask your child about Mr. Morton!
In Math we finished rounding to the nearest ten and hundred and introduced our math tubs/stations. We will start our unit on addition and subtraction strategies with 2 and 3 digit numbers. Practice basic math facts at home to practice quickness in knowing our facts to help with this standard.
Lastly, in Social Studies we continue our Native American Unit with studying the different regions of the USA to see what tribes live where and how they used their environment for their basic needs like clothing, shelter and food.
Thank you to all who sent in materials for our Stomp Rockets today… the kids had a blast and congratulations to Jacob Simpson for being our class winner for the farthest trajectory and will face off against the other 3rd grade winners!! And don’t forget about Stem Night Thursday, 5:30-7:30. I hate to miss it but I have Open House for my freshman at Lassiter!!
Have a wonderful week and thanks for all you do to support our class! I adore your children!!
